The latest film about Echo is now available through Amazon. This is the film that was made after her death. The title is "Echo: An Elephant to Remember"; it is a retrospective of her life. Another DVD produced by the BBC includes three of the earlier Echo films plus another film we did on African elephants and three or four other BBC elephant films, so this DVD called "Echo and Other Elephants" is quite a bargain. The link to the Amazon site is: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddvd&field-keyw...

I find it very strange that the BBC does not offer it's programmes in region 2 format. When "Echo and Other Elephants" was released I contacted the BBC and asked if it was to be released on region 2 and was told that there were no plans to do so. So far this has still not happened.
What may be of use to you is the fact that certain makes of dvd player appear to be on sale in the UK region free. I know for certain that Bush ones are/were region free because I tried Echo and other Elephants in my parents Bush dvd player and it played perfectly. In fact I tried it in 2 different Bush players with no problems.
Hope this helps

I just looked through Amazon's offerings and could not currently find the DVD with any other region code but 1 (Americas). Amazon UK offers it as US import with a region code warning.
Things may generally be getting better, perhaps also through Blu-ray disks. Unfortunately, "Echo And Other Elephants" does not currently seem to be available on Blu-ray, but a better example is "Echo: An Elephant to Remember". It is available on Blu-ray from Amazon UK. This can only mean that the Blu-ray disk is region-code-free like 70% of all Blu-ray disks, because otherwise Amazon UK could not sell it without any region code warning.
There are ways to play disks, DVD and Blu-ray, from other regions, essentially tricks to disable or circumvent the region code check in the player or obtaining a player in which this has already been done. I don't want to discuss the technical details on this global web site, as they may be illegal in some places.
It is also likely that these new movies will appear with other region codes soon, particularly in UK versions, because there they do not have to be dubbed. These UK versions can then be imported (Amazon usually offers that) and watched in other countries in Western Europe and Africa (region code 2 for DVD and region code B for Blu-ray, which also includes Australia).

The only dvd I'm missing so far that I believe has some of Echo in it is the programme that Cynthia did on "Africa's Forgotten Elephants". I'm not even sure if it's available on dvd.

There is an Australian BBC DVD which includes the first three Echo films and Africa's Forgotten Elephants. I'm not sure how you would get it. Maybe a friend in Australia can get it for you.
